Aluminium Nitride Ceramics

Aluminium Nitride has a very high thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation properties. For these reasons it is often chosen for applications where heat needs to be conducted away quickly, such as within sensitive electronic devices.

The thermal conductivity of Aluminium Nitride is typically around 180W/mK, which is at least 5 times greater than alumina. The material is non-toxic so is frequently selected as an alternative to beryllia. Other features such as good thermal shock resistance, low thermal expansion and the ability to be metallised mean that this is a useful material for a wide range of applications. The maximum working temperature of Aluminium Nitride in air is 1200°C.
